Loose-fill asbestos insulation

Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, pure loose-fill asbestos was sold as ceiling insulation for residential and commercial premises. A Canberra based company known as ‘Mr Fluffy’ installed insulation in around 1,000 houses in the ACT and is also understood to have installed insulation into homes in NSW.

The NSW Government will implement a voluntary purchase and demolition program as part of its efforts to find an enduring solution to the loose fill asbestos insulation issue in NSW. NSW Fair Trading will establish and oversee the Loose-Fill Asbestos Implementation Taskforce whose responsibility will be to implement the program.

For further information on the Voluntary Purchase/Demolition Program Process, assistance for owners and tenants, and the new laws to identify properties and protect residents and workers, visit the Loose-fill Asbestos Insulation website.
